KBS 2 started after a merger of the Tongyang Broadcasting Corporation to KBS in 1980. KBS2 is a similar channel as France 2 in France, BBC One in the United Kingdom, Das Erste in Germany and NPO 1 in the Netherlands. The channel was established first time as DTV Seoul on 7 December 1964 and on 3 August 1965, it was replaced as JBS.
On 1 July 1966 TBC replaced the JBS, and in December 1980 it is named as KBS2. The channel was also known as KBS2 TV or HLSA -D TV. On 1 January 2015, IT introduced 2D animations and abandoned the Channel’s yellow ball mascot. The Tv station is among the two terrestrial Korean channels which sign off every night; other is EBS.
