Philadelphia Evening Bulletin secured the construction permit for channel 10 in 1946 with naming WPEN-TV on the name of newspaper WPEN radio stations. After 1947 Bulletin purchased the WCAU radio stations (now WPHT). Bulletin sold WPEN and WCAU-FM. The newspaper changed the name of channel ten as WCAU-TV.

NBC Universal purchased the Telemundo station WWSI from ZGS Communications for $20 million as a duopoly with WCAU, like many others NBC O&O.
